Job Description

The Risk Officer will oversee a robust enterprise risk management framework within the organisation, ensuring that strategic, operational, financial, and compliance risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, monitored, and reported in accordance with applicable legislation and governance standards.

The Key Performance Areas (KPAs) of the role include:

  • Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance framework that aligns with regulatory and governance requirements related to Risk Management.
  • Develop and implement the organisation’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
  • Facilitate the identification of risks and provide leadership with recommendations for risk mitigation improvements.
  • Conduct risk assessments with responsible owners, including analysis of inherent and residual risks, and suggest enhancements to mitigate identified risks.
  • Drive proactive identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of risks.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Ensure that complaint-handling processes are fair, well-tracked, and reported to Board Committees without any unpleasant surprises.
  • Prepare and present compliance reports to the Board, Committees, and regulators in a confident and coherent manner.
  • Risk reports and dashboards for management, Executive Committees, and the Risk Committee.
  • Implement appropriate risk reporting for the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, and Executive Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with the Public Finance Management Act, the Public Sector Risk Management Framework, Corporate Governance standards, and other relevant Treasury regulations.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Attributes:

  • Practical, hands-on experience in applying risk management tools and techniques,
  • A solid understanding of the PFMA, National Treasury Regulations, and Public Sector Risk Management Framework
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., FSCA, King V).
  • Strong administrative and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently and enforce procedures
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
