CHAIRPERSON’S STATEMENT
It is my privilege to present the National Radioactive Waste
Disposal Institute’s Annual Performance Plan for 2026/27.
This APP is tabled at a pivotal moment for South Africa’s
electricity and energy transition, as the Department of
Electricity and Energy (DEE) accelerates the implementation
of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP 2025), strengthens
the reliability of the national energy system, and advances
a diversified energy mix that includes nuclear power as a
secure, low-carbon baseload option. This APP reflects
the Board’s strategic direction, oversight priorities, and
commitment to ensuring that NRWDI fulfils its statutory
mandate in an efficient, sustainable, and aligned manner
with national policy objectives.
